Chairman of the Board
Dr. Michel is a member of the Larkin Management Team for 17 years. He is in charge of the overall management of the hospital. Dr. Michel is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and has over twenty years of experience in medical management.
He graduated from the University Of Miami School Of Medicine, achieving a number of recognitions, awards and scholarships. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Summa Cum Laude. He subsequently obtained a Medical Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine achieving membership in the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Society (AOA), the only National Honor Medical Society in the world, in recognition of his outstanding performance in Medical School.
He completed his training in Internal Medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) achieving recognition for outstanding performance by being chosen as Chief Medical Resident/Assistant Professor of Medicine of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. In this role he was responsible for management and teaching responsibilities in coordination with the Program Director, supervising and directing all aspects of training for 124 resident physicians.
Dr. Michel founded and managed Oracle Health Systems (OHS) in 1994. OHS developed into a 12 physician multi-specialty group practice, which became the first medical group practice in Florida to achieve Accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JACHO).
Dr. Michel has been the majority shareholder of Larkin Community Hospital (LCH) since 1998. He has been able to begin a turnaround for the Hospital. This consisted of not only of accomplishing financial objectives, but also improved quality of care. LCH was transformed into a respected teaching Hospital and is one of 12 designated statutory teaching hospitals in Florida offering the largest number of training programs for Osteopathic Physicians in the United States (offering training in more than 32 different specialties). LCH also sponsors an allopathic residency program in Psychiatry, an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program, an American Society of Health System Pharmacists Accredited Pharmacy Residency Program and a Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program. The LCH School of Nursing offers a Registered Nurse Associate Degree and a Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. In addition, LCH’s College of Biomedical Sciences offers a Post-Baccalaureate Biomedical Sciences Degree program.
Dr. Michel is extensively involved in community activities through active participation in numerous not-for-profit foundations emphasizing access to healthcare services to residents of Florida. He has received multiple recognitions from public, private organizations and community groups for his leadership in developing innovative programs to provide access to health care services to uninsured Floridians.
