Teaching Interests

I have lectured on various psychiatric topics (e.g., depression, ADHD, anxiety, schizophrenia) and over diverse patient populations (e.g., pediatrics, geriatrics). However, my primary goal when teaching is to assist students in developing meta-cognitive skills. It is not enough to teach a subject but more important for students to learn how to set their learning goals, understands their learning style, and assess their own learning. These skills are imperative as they become pharmacists and life-long learners.

Scholarly Interests

My researched interests have included establishing ambulatory pharmacy services for underserved populations. I have studied the effects of psychotropic medications in various patient populations and their impact on cognition. Through my grants, I am researching how chronic conditions (e.g., HIV, diabetes) may impact cognition and medication adherence in underserved patients. Recently, through FLIGHT/VIDAS (www.flightvidas.org) we are building (among several projects) a computerized pharmacy application to improve health literacy among Hispanics with type 2 diabetes.
